  • Today I went with good friend Aren (See Kara Cupcake pictures)
But this time we went for lunch instead of cupcakes (for a change) to avoid massive overdose and potential diabetes.
After eating Vietnamese noodles we headed over to Guitar Center because he said he wanted to buy an Acoustic.

I sat there watching him and the salesman in the Guitar Room and noticed a gentleman playing the guitar.
There is something so raw and beautiful about an playing the guitar.
I could feel the vibrations in the air - as if his guitar amplified his soulful feelings.
I sat there entranced, I have a great appreciation and admiration for music, musicians and artists.
Though, I always thought it would be physically impossible for me to play any instrument.

He noticed that I was in awe and told me about what playing the guitar meant for him.
And in his slow steady voice voice he said "I have been playing the guitar for a little bit, there are books and people out there that can teach you how to play. Although you and I won't be superstars, I find great enjoyment in playing simple things, I let my fingers express whatever I feel. There are only 7 notes on the guitar and 13 chords. simple. Everyone can play the notes with practice but only a few can see things that others cannot see. .... And wherever you go around the world you may not understand what they are saying but the music is universal and you learn to appreciate the sound."

I felt I totally agreed with his monologue and it agrees with my own theory with life.
A reality check with simplicity. To cherish less not more. .
That you can play for yourself as well as for other people
That everything in the universe and in life is somewhat related..

    ------

I had a really awesome past four days.
Hanging out with a someone  that makes me smile from ear to ear.
long intellectual conversation or quick ego checking comments.
leaves a huge grin on my face.
    still uncertainty.

Went on a lot of adventures and YES I did get more cupcakes.
This time from Love at First Bite.
They take the cake. For now.

Will update later on the cupcake bit.

    Begin Documentation

on saturday, i decided that it was time to begin my epic cupcaking adventure.
it was really late in the afternoon and i called aren to go to san francisco.
the drive usually isn't bad but on that day there was expected to be traffic, unusually terrifying 50 mile per hour winds strong rain and some hail. in addition the annual san francisco chinese new year parade blocked off several key streets. eh whatever lets go.

so aren stavi, champion race car driver,
got there in time with much time to spare.

kara's was my first choice because i've passed by it so many times at night time when going bar hopping in the area.
ive had dreamed about going there and then i realized it might be quality.
they use mostly organic ingredients from local producers:

Which i think is really awesome. definitely a supporter of
    berkeley's scharffen berger chocolate.
i sprinted from the car to the store and then i told the counter person that ive been dreaming of eating cupcakes and she responded that i had come to the right place. in response, i asked her how many flavors they had. 15 and i told her id take one of each.

    Flavors:
    Ghiradelli Chocolate
    Sweet Vanilla
    Vanilla Chocolate
    Buttery Buttermilk Vanilla
    Chocolate Velvet
    Coconut
    Kara's Carrot
    Banana
    Raspberry Dazzle
    Java
    Passion Fruit
    Meyer Lemony Lemon
    Fleur De Sel.

the first cupcake i had was the raspberry dazzle, it was good combination of raspberry buttercream on a chocolate cupcake. my favorites were the lemony lemon, passion fruit and the karrot cake. other than that i was somewhat disappointed, there were four base cake flavors: chocolate, vanilla, carrot and banana. I really wanted something interesting maybe a tiramisu cake base or something wild - saffron or chunks of fruit in the cupcake which would make it interesting both conceptually and texturally. but otherwise the concept and layout of the business is really cute and i can see how its a cute neighborhood place. there are also mini cupcakes that are 5 times smaller than a regular cupcake. the store itself almost resembles an apple store in design, white panels, clean design.

    Will be updated later,
    Cupcake Boy.
